  • The FIA is expanding its Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme to FIA Region II, helping improve road safety across Asia-Pacific through training, mentoring, evidence-based actions, and community building.
  • The first seminar, run by United Nations agency UNITAR as part of the FIA University with FIA Foundation support, takes place in Chiang Mai, Thailand, bringing together participants from 10 countries.
  • After success in the Americas (FIA Regions III and IV), this expansion reflects the FIA’s mission to use its global reach to save lives at scale.

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has launched the Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life (SM4A4L) programme in FIA Region II (Asia-Pacific), in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and with the support of the FIA Foundation.

This FIA University initiative brings FIA Member Clubs and government authorities together to build capacity, learn side by side, and develop practical road safety projects with guidance from international experts.

With its launch in FIA Region II, the programme expands into Asia and the Pacific, building on its success in FIA Regions III (North America) and IV (Central America and South America), where FIA Member Clubs and government authorities created national road safety projects in 13 countries to strengthen safety standards, improve driver training for young people, and apply technology to make high-risk vehicles safer.

Through a mix of in-person seminars, online learning and mentorship, the programme equips participants with practical tools, knowledge, and methodologies to design targeted evidence-based interventions.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said, “Asia-Pacific faces a number of road safety challenges and this programme will play a key role in driving improvements by creating a strong community of practice between our Member Clubs and government authorities, empowering them to work together to make mobility safer for everyone across the region.”

FIA Region II President Greig Craft said, “Road safety in our region requires solutions tailored to local realities. FIA Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life in Region II will deliver just that, enabling our Member Clubs and their government authorities to tackle the region’s specific challenges –from the use of high-quality helmets to building safer infrastructure and improving driver and rider training. They will have everything they need to make a real difference on the ground.”

UNITAR Director of the Division for People and Social Development Alex Mejía said,FIA Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life demonstrates how regional partnerships and international expertise lead to positive change and its expansion to Asia-Pacific highlights the importance of connecting regions and equipping road safety leaders everywhere with the tools to turn knowledge into measurable action and tangible results.”

FIA Foundation Executive Director Saul Billingsley said, “Building road safety capacity locally is critical to long-term change. By supporting FIA Member Clubs and government authorities across Asia-Pacific, we are helping create projects that can be scaled, shared, and adapted to save lives throughout the region.”

The first seminar held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, ahead of the start of the FIA Asia-Pacific Congress, gathers participants from 10 countries across the region. The programme focuses on introducing the Safe System approach, practical case studies and group exercises on project formulation and stakeholder mapping.

The expansion to Asia-Pacific represents an important step in FIA’s goal to grow the Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme globally, apply proven approaches across multiple regions, and drive change at scale.
