ETRC - 2018 Race of Jarama - Race 1 & 2

In what was another triumphant day for German truck racing talent, Jochen Hahn and Rene Reinert took a win each after another spectacular day of FIA European Truck Racing Championship action at Jarama.

In front of a large and passionate Spanish crowd, a seasons best entry provided action aplenty with thrills and spills throughout the pair of 12-lap races.

2018 champion Hahn took a lights-to-flag win in the first encounter while Rene Reinert triumphed in the second event after hunting down recently crowned GRAMMER TRUCK CUP champion Shane Brereton.

Race 1
Jochen Hahn claimed the 11thwin of his brilliant championship winning season in the first race at Jarama in Spain today.

The German converted pole position to a decisive victory to lead home local hero Antonio Albacete by 2.1 seconds at the chequered flag.

The original start to the 12-lap race was red flagged after just four corners saw high-drama as Antonio Albacete and Norbert Kiss collided will fighting over second place. This in turn triggered a chain-reaction incident which involved six trucks in total.

As well as Kiss and Albacete, Andre Kursim (Don’t Touch Racing IVECO), Jamie Anderson (Anderson MAN), Frankie Vojtisek (Czech Truck Racing Team MAN) and Luis Recuenco (Trucksport Lutz Bernau) were also involved as they tried to chicane their  way through the carnage.

Kiss, Albacete and Lacko were all placed under investigation for the incident, while Anthony Janiec who was also caught up in the melee was forced to start from the pit lane.

While Albacete was able to line-up for the re-start, Kiss was forced to skip the race for repairs to his Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz truck.

Race 2

Rene Reinert took his third win of the 2018 FIA ETRC season in race two at Jarama this evening.

The Reinert Racing MAN driver headed Shane Brereton to take a well-judged 10-points. It went some way to banishing the memory of several difficult recent rounds to add to his previous successes this year at Hungaroring and Most.

Pole sitter Brereton led by a narrow margin for half of the race with Reinert leading the chase after he vaulted Steffi Hahn’s Team Schwabentruck IVECO on the opening tour.

Reinert then made his race winning move for the lead on lap seven as he got the better of Brereton and powered his way through in what was an accomplished and decisive manoeuvre.

Despite her best efforts, Halm was unable to displace Brereton who took a fine second position while Halm claimed another podium place.

Brereton also took yet another GRAMMER TRUCK CUP victory in the category he has dominated this season.
