ETRC - 2019 Race of Hungary - Race 1 & 2

Jochen Hahn and Sascha Lenz made it an excellent day for Germany once again in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship at Hungaroring today.

Hahn took a conclusive Race 1 victory to take over the lead in the 2019 FIA ETRC standings and ensure he continues to live up to his billing as title favourite as he hunts a sixth title.

Sascha Lenz was a delighted Race 2 winner in his SL Trucksport30 entry to notch up his second ever career victory in the FIA ETRC.

Lenz headed home compatriots Rene Reinert and Steffi Halm in a frantic battle which saw multiple battles wow the crowd with fierce fights throughout the quality grid.

Race 1

Jochen Hahn swept to a conclusive victory in race one at the Hungaroring today after a dominant display in his Hahn Racing IVECO.

The reigning champion took his third victory from five races so far in 2019 to take the points standings lead previous held by Adam Lacko.

As the race got under way, it seemed that it the follow front-row starter Antonio Albacete had initially got the better of Hahn, but the German managed to keep the Truck Sport Lutz Bernau driver at bay.

As a result, Albacete lost further ground and dropped behind Adam Lacko’s Buggyra Racing-run Freightliner.

Lacko was running second on the road for nearly half of the duration of the race but was first penalised 10 seconds for overspeeding, before his penalty being later converted into a drive-through. That allowed Albacete a clear run through for the runners-up position.

Race 2

Sascha Lenz took a popular win at Hungaroring in Race 2 this afternoon after a dramatic race.

The German had a disappointing start to the weekend, making a mistake in the Super Pole session and only qualifying eighth for the earlier race. He then found himself second on the grid for Race 2, following seventh place finish in Race 1.

Following the start, the MAN racer got the better of polesitter Rene Reinert. From that moment on there was no match for Lenz, who gradually extended his advantage over second-place Reinert to eventually finish 7.6s clear of his fellow German.

Reinert brought his IVECO truck home in second, ahead of the similar machine entered by Truck Schwabentruck and driven by Steffi Halm.
