2019 ETRC Race of Nurburgring - Race 3 & 4

Jochen Hahn and Norbert Kiss sealed the final two wins of a hugely eventful FIA European Truck Racing Championship weekend at the Nürburgring today.

The German and Hungarian aces pulled off well-judged wins after more high adrenalin action thrilled the super-sized crowd at the annual ADAC Truck Grand Prix, the biggest and best truck racing showcase in the world.

Hahn took a remarkable eighth victory of his 2019 FIA ETRC campaign on Sunday lunchtime to keep up his astonishing record of winning 50% of the races run so far this season.

Norbert Kiss took the spoils in the final race as he overtook pole-sitter Andre Kursim to ensure a jubilant Tankpool24 Racing team could celebrate a famous home win for itself and also Mercedes-Benz.

124,000 people witnessed the truck festival action over the course of the Nürburgring event, further stamping its importance as the biggest event in the truck racing calendar.

Race 3

Championship leader, Hahn, had a good getaway from pole position and managed to avoid the first corner chain reaction that involved several drivers.

The German quickly opened up a 1.6s gap over second on the road Steffi Halm in the second of the IVECO trucks and, untroubled from this moment onwards, cruised to his second win of the weekend and eight of the season, taking another step towards his sixth title.

The podium was completed by Antonio Albacete of Truck Sport Lutz Bernau and Adam Lacko in a Freightliner run by Buggyra Racing.

Several trucks came together under braking into Turn 1. As a result, starting from sixth on the grid, Halm found herself running in second position.

Front-row starter Norbert Kiss came out worse, being pushed out of the corner and having to take evasive actions and dropping down the order as a result.

Race 4

Norbert Kiss took a hard-won second victory of his 2019 FIA European Truck Racing Championship campaign in the final race at Nürburgring this afternoon.

The Hungarian snatched the lead from pole-sitter Andre Kursim with a superb move at the end of the fifth lap to ensure Mercedes-Benz became the third different manufacturer to win from the four races held this weekend.

Kiss, who won the third race at the opening event at Misano in May, doubled his victory tally and sent his Tankpool24 Racing team in to ecstasy as they celebrated a much needed home victory.

This was despite Kiss losing his front bodywork section after he made contact with the back of Kursim’s IVECO.

Kursim hung on to the runners-up position in his Don’t Touch Racing IVECO despite colossal pressure from Antonio Albacete’s Trucksport Lutz Bernau MAN.

Battles raged throughout the field and none more so than the fight for fourth place between Gerd Korber and Jose Rodrigues.
