ETRC - 2018 Race of Zolder - Race 1 and 2

Antonio Albacete and Steffi Halm shared the victories at Circuit Zolder in Belgium today after some typically close and exciting FIA European Truck Racing Championship action.

Both the veteran Spaniard and one of motorsports most successful female racers took hard-fought wins this afternoon.

While all eyes were on Albacete and Halm, Jochen Hahn took two impressive podium positions to extend his lead in the points standings to 54-points.

Race 1

Antonio Albacete claimed his third win of the 2018 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season at Zolder this afternoon.

The Spaniard converted pole position to take a comfortable win in his Trucksport Lutz Bernau MAN heading home Adam Lacko in the 12-lap encounter. His Zolder win added to his successes at Nürburgring and Slovakia Ring earlier this season.

Albacete made a perfect start and was able to extend his lead during the race while behind him Adam Lacko and Jochen battled intensely over second position.

The Buggyra International Racing System Freightliner driver was able to overtake his German rival on the opening lap but Hahn soon started to apply huge pressure.

Despite several attempts to find a way by, Lacko held on to the position to ensure he chipped away at Hahn’s title points lead which now stands at 45 points with 11 races remaining.

Norbert Kiss took fourth place for Tankpool24 Racing after overtaking both Andre Kursim and Rene Reinert during the race despite losing a sizeable part of his front bodywork.

Reinert took fifth position just ahead of Sascha Lenz (SL Trucksport) and Steffi Halm (Team Schwabentruck IVECO).

Race 2

Steffi Halm executed an impressive race two win at Zolder today to take her second success of the 2018 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season.

The Team Schwabentruck IVECO driver put behind her several tough events in recent months to take the chequered flag 5.532s ahead of Jochen Hahn.

Halm out-muscled pole position starter Andre Kursim going in to the first corner and made an audacious and brave move around the outside of her fellow German.

From there Halm was able to control the race and take the 10-points in clinical fashion.

Kursim still managed to equal his best result of the season for himself and the new for 2018 Don’t Touch Racing squad in third but was disappointed to lose out on the runners-up spot after Jochen Hahn overtook him on the final tour.

Rene Reinert was in line to take third earlier in the race but made a slight mistake on lap seven running wide over the gravel at the final chicane. This allowed Jochen Hahn to make it through and ultimately take the runners-up position after he then went on to hunt down Kursim in the final stages.

All this meant that with Hahn and Kursim joining Halm in the top three positions it was a red-letter day for IVECO who claimed all the available space on the podium.
