ERC - post-event winning driver quotes

26.07.21

Post-event quotes from the FIA European Rally Championship category winners on Rally di Roma Capitale

GIANDOMENICO BASSO (FIA ERC1 winner)
“Everything is okay, it was a very tricky rally, but we are very, very happy. The final loop was long and we needed to be concentrated because even with the problems for Crugnola and Lukyanuk we could only relax medium because anything can happen on this rally with many kilometres. Thank you to my team, my co-driver and everyone who helped us.”

JAVIER PARDO (FIA ERC2 winner)
“It’s very, very good, two rallies, two victories. It’s a very good job by all the team because our other car is also on the podium, it’s perfect. Really, we had no problems, the car was perfect, no puncture, no mistakes in all the rally. That is very tricky because it’s a hard rally and it was easy to make mistakes with a lot of kilometres. It was a fantastic job by all the team, by my co-driver. I also made my best during the rally. I improved a lot and I am proud of me.”

PEP BASSAS (FIA ERC3 winner)
“This is incredible, it’s a really, really good job by the team, by Axel my co-driver but it’s very crazy what has happened and I am very sorry for Alejandro Cachón who did not win ERC3 Junior by 0.1s, a little bit pushing more and he could have won. I am very happy for the team, The Racing Factory, and the points for the championship is very good and in Barum we hope it can be better. The fight was amazing today.”

KEN TORN (FIA ERC Junior winner)
“The morning was quite nice, the car was working really well and definitely we could be happy. The team did an amazing job to fix the powersteering [problem] from yesterday. We still need to practice the hairpins with the four-wheel drive because it’s a different driving style and when it’s dirty Tarmac the rear wheels help and the car is more stable. Luckily I did one rally with Timo before and he did good work here. Overall, we are happy, it was a nice rally and we did our pace. These are good points for the championship and it’s a good win. I was not pushing too much on the final afternoon and I found the time to be better so I improved a way of driving.”

JEAN-BAPTISTE FRANCESCHI (FIA ERC3 Junior winner)
“It’s one of the smallest gaps in rally and for sure I am so, so happy. We gave everything in the last stage and it pays. It was not full risk but almost 100 per cent everywhere. I think it was the perfect stage because we were flat out everywhere and it was nice. I am happy for Toksport WRT and Renault Sport. We did a good job throughout the weekend. We didn’t have an easy weekend and we never gave up so this result means a lot. It’s so important for the championship and now we have to focus on the Barum Rally.”

DARIUSZ POLOŃSKI (Abarth Rally Cup winner)
“Winning three rallies in a row is a good achievement and I am really happy to be here. It was a perfect rally with beautiful stages and the car was working well, it’s his home so of course it was working well. Today was much more difficult than yesterday. It’s a long day with bumpy stages but we are very happy with what achieved. Every stage had more and more gravel so we had to be cautious, but it was a problem for everybody, it’s normal. We also scored good points in ERC2 and I am looking forward to the next rally.”

ANDREA MABELLINI (Clio Trophy by Toksport WRT winner)
“It was a really good battle and with my friends Soria and Rossi, we had big race and I am happy. It’s what we are here for. It was a tough race, especially for the brakes, which we lost sometimes, but everything was okay and I am really happy to win my home race. We have done the best we could and I would like o thank all my partners, sponsors and all the team.”

EFRÉN LLARENA (ERC-MICHELIN Talent Factory leading finisher)
“We tried to do our best for sure to be on the podium. It was our first rally in this car on Tarmac, we did only 50 kilometres before. Honestly, we are really happy with our performance and we lost the podium only by three-tenths and in front of us are two local drivers and after it’s Herczig, me and a lot of drivers who compete in WRC like Craig Breen and Andreas Mikkelsen and lots of other fantastic drivers. We are also the first MICHELIN driver on the rally and they have a very good tyre.”
