Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit awarded FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation

Imola, 23th April 2022 - Formula Imola is pleased to announce that Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit has obtained from FIA the certification for the third level environmental, the highest level that can be obtained. The circuit is proud to be one of the few circuits to have achieved first the ISO 20121:2013 certification, and now the FIA Environmental Accreditation. 

A result that rewards the strong environmental commitment of the circuit which has materialized above all through the creation of a noise monitoring and containment system, the provision of solar panels to support the renewable energy needs of the circuit and activities concerning the management of production of waste and the reduction of single-use plastics. All thanks to the total synergy between the Municipality of Imola Circuit Department and the Department of the Environment,  Formula Imola and Con.Ami ".

The project "Sustainable Circuit" includes the active and passive mitigation of noise, sustainable mobility to and from the circuit with free-flow bike sharing service and installation of electric charging columns, plastic-free actions, water dispensers in the common areas (offices, press room) and distribution of water bottles. A “Woodland for the circuit” will be built at the end of 2022 in a bend of the  river Santerno crossed by the Santerno Cycle Route, near the Circuit, and will be equipped with illustrative panels that will tell the benefits of trees in the absorption of CO2, fine dust and in favor of biodiversity

The certification has been delivered  today by Carmelo Sanz de Barros, FIA Senate President, on the occasion of the Formula 1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in the presence of Gian Carlo Minardi, Formula Imola Chairman and FIA Single Seater Commission President, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, ACI President, Marco Panieri, Mayor of Imola and Elena Penazzi, Municipality of Imola Circtuit Councilor.

FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, said: "The FIA is delighted to recognise the strong commitment to the Environment demonstrated by the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, which has become one of the few circuits in Europe to obtain the highest FIA Environmental standard, the Three-Star level. This is part of motor sport's overall commitment to reducing its environmental impact and leading the way in sustainable innovation. I congratulate all those who have made this achievement possible and wish them a successful Formula 1 2022 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix this weekend.”

Gian Carlo Minardi (Formula Imola Chairman and FIA Single Seater Commission President) said: "A result that fills us with satisfaction, the result of collaboration with Luigi Di Matteo of ACI and Imola’s Municipality   through Imola Living Lab, project realized by the Circuit Councilor Elena Penazzi and the Environment Councilor Elisa Spada and with Prof. Valeria Vignali of Bologna’s University. Together we have undertaken a path that has led us to have 1 Star for the F1 GP on 18th April 2021 and this year the third Star, awarded for full compliance with the project FIA ​​Sustainability Program, which involves the International Circuits and which will be mandatory to host international races, of course including F1, starting from the end of 2022 ".
