Chinese Taipei Motor Sports Association Marks 20 Years of International Gymkhana Development

2025 marks a significant milestone for grassroots motor sport in Asia, as the Chinese Taipei Motor Sports Association (CTMSA) celebrates two decades since the launch of the first internationally recognised Auto Gymkhana event.

Held on 12–13 November 2005, the inaugural event was the first of its kind to be officially listed in the FIA International Sporting Calendar. Ten ASNs from region participated, laying the foundation for gymkhana’s evolution into a dynamic and inclusive motor sport discipline.

Since that historic weekend, the discipline has grown consistently under the guidance of the Asia Gymkhana Working Group, chaired by Dr. Kwong Wing Yeung. With a focus on safety, affordability and accessibility, Auto Gymkhana has become a key entry point for new drivers and motor sport enthusiasts across the region.

In 2025, the Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship (AAGC) features five rounds and welcomes over twenty ASN teams from across the Asia-Pacific. This expansion supports the FIA’s mission to double motor sport participation globally with gymkhana playing a key role in engaging diverse communities and promoting grassroots development on the international stage

Dr. Kwong Wing Yeung, chair of the Asia Gymkhana Working Group, said:

“As we celebrate this 20-year milestone, it is time to embark on the next chapter, expanding gymkhana beyond Asia and bringing this wonderful motor sport discipline to new communities around the world.”

Round 4 of the 2025 Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship will be held in Taiwan from November 22–23 2025
