ATCL hosts successful motor sport engineering online workshop

16.06.20

As part of the FIA Young Driver Programme, the Automobile and Touring Club of Lebanon (ATCL) recently conducted an online workshop addressed to young students interested in learning what it takes to enter the motor sport industry, and what are the key attributes to lead engineering areas in motor sport teams.

“Following the great success of the FIA Young Drivers Programme, we experienced a growing demand from students wishing to get involved in motorsport engineering but not having the knowhow, or any educational opportunity in their country”, said FIA Deputy Vice-President for MENA Imad Lahoud.

“Therefore in 2020 we decided to add the motorsport engineering workshop to our program”, he added. “Due to the unfortunate Covid-19 situation we decided to launch it online and it has been a huge success with great feedbacks.”

With around 80 participants, the workshop was delivered by Vinit Patel from Mahindra Racing and with the input from a number of the ATCL experts. It gave a great insight into the qualities required to get into motor sport engineering.  There was a high level of interaction from the participants, posing various questions about how to get into this area of motor sport.

“Our aim is to ensure we educate and develop motor sport where it is needed and open the doors for the youth to enter the sport not only as drivers but also as engineers, mechanics, managers, PR, etc.” continues Mr Lahoud. “I would like to thank the FIA Sport Funding Commission for their support and wish all the success for the benefit of our young talents”.
