ABB FIA FORMULA E WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS FOR SEASON 12 (2025/26) WITH SÃO PAULO SEASON OPENER
Season 12 (2025/26) of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship begins in São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday, 6 December 2025. The rivalries and intense racing action of Season 11 will be reignited as Formula E charges around the iconic Sambadrome.

For the second time, the championship begins in the fan-favourite city of São Paulo, Brazil - home of racing legends Ayrton Senna and Emerson Fittipaldi - for Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Reigning FIA World Champion, Oliver Rowland, and reigning FIA World Champions for Teams, Porsche Formula E Team, will be eager to start the season on a high. In addition, Season 12 features several new drivers, including Brazilian Felipe Drugovich (Andretti Formula E), Pepe Martí (Cupra Kiro) and Joel Eriksson (Envision Racing), who will be keen to make their mark around the iconic São Paulo venue.
With a population of over 23 million, Brazil’s largest city plays host to Formula E’s São Paulo E-Prix for the fourth time. The 11 turns of the 2.933km circuit sees three long, fast straights knitted together by technical chicanes and tight right-handers, lending itself to plenty of overtakes and dramatic moves. Fans can look forward to overtaking, slipstreaming and critical energy and battery temperature management.
Last season, the São Paulo E-Prix delivered an exciting start to Season 11, culminating in a historic victory for Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing), in which the Kiwi driver started last on the 22-car grid, utilising two red flags and a strategic use of Attack Mode to fight his way up the field. Evans held off pressure from António Félix da Costa (Jaguar TCS Racing, previously Porsche Formula E) to take the win, while rookie Taylor Barnard (DS PENSKE, previously NEOM McLaren) claimed a sensational third place, becoming the youngest podium finisher in the championship's history.
Pablo Martino, FIA Head of Formula E, said : “We’re thrilled to kick off this final season of the GEN3 Evo cars in Brazil, in front of a passionate crowd, and on a track that never fails to deliver bold overtakes. Its hot weather also pushes tyre and temperature management to the limit. With the reshaped grid, the arrival of Citroën Racing and a field that has never been tighter, everything points to a spectacular, high-energy showdown once again.”
Oliver Rowland, No.1, Nissan Formula E Team, said: “I’m looking forward to being out on-track in Brazil and starting the new campaign as defending Drivers’ World Champion. It’s a new season so our focus is once again on maximizing our performance throughout as the field will be even tighter. It’s a tricky circuit, there is minimal grip as well as it being quite bumpy. Managing the temperatures in the hot weather is going to be crucial and it’ll also be important to settle into a good rhythm from FP1. I led the majority of the São Paulo E-Prix last year, of course there has been a lot of racing since then, but I will be aiming to fight at the front again to ensure a strong start to the new season.”
Felipe Drugovich, No.28, Andretti Formula E, said: "I'm super, super excited. I think it will probably rank up there in one of the best experiences I will have in my career; to make my debut in an international race and top-tier motorsport series in Brazil. I will be aiming to deliver the best result possible in front of all of the Brazilian fans. The track is very fast and produces a lot of great overtaking, with the additional challenge of managing your energy. I'm just really looking forward to getting to São Paulo, and I'm going to try and enjoy it by taking in as much as I can at my first race."
Mitch Evans, No.9, Jaguar TCS Racing, said: "São Paulo will always be special to me after last year’s race – coming through from 22nd on the grid to take the win was a record-breaking moment and one moment of my career I will never forget. The team and I know how tough this track can be, but we’re ready to fight hard again and hopefully deliver another result for the fans. The Brazilian crowd is incredible – their passion and energy bring such an amazing atmosphere, and that makes racing here even more exciting.”
