  • Championship restructure designed to deliver closer competition and sustainable growth, allowing competitors to focus on their preferred era and surface.

Following the FIA World Motor Sport Council’s approval of the comprehensive reorganisation of historic rallying, the FIA has today confirmed the calendars for the 2026 FIA European Historic Rally Championships (EHRC).

Next year marks the start of a bold new era for the EHRC, which will consist of three distinct championships maintained under the FIA EHRC umbrella: the FIA EHRC Pre-1992 Championship, the FIA EHRC Pre-2000 Championship and the FIA EHRC Gravel Championship.

The 2026 season represents a major expansion for historic rallying in Europe, with seven new events joining the roster and a total of 16 rallies taking place across twelve nations. Each championship, independent of era or surface, offers competitors the opportunity to experience legendary rallies steeped in heritage – from the harsh Greek gravel of the Historic Acropolis Rally to the mountainous tarmac of Rallye d’Antibes – broadening the offering for competitors to take part in some of Europe’s most iconic events.

The 2026 Pre-1992 Championship will feature seven events, celebrating the golden age of rally machinery on classic asphalt rallies across Europe. The championship opens with Rally Costa Brava (6-7 March) in Spain before moving to Italy for the Costa Smeralda Rally (24-25 April) – a brand-new addition to the championship. The series then heads to the French Riviera for Rallye Antibes Côte d’Azur Historic (14-17 May) before visiting Ardeca Ypres Rally (25-27 June) and Rally Weiz Historic (16-18 July), both of which will also host the Pre-2000 Championship. September brings the FIA’s first historic appearance in Wales with Rali Ceredigion (4-6 September), before the campaign concludes in traditional Italian style with Rally Elba Storico (24-26 September).

The Pre-2000 Championship will feature eight events, providing a dedicated stage for the growing number of competitors with iconic cars from 1993-2000 (Period K). The 2026 season opens alongside the pre-1992 contenders at Rally Costa Brava, before continuing to the Historic Vltava Rally (24-26 April) in the Czech Republic, with Rallye du Chablais (28-30 May) in Switzerland returning to the Championship. Ardeca Ypres Rally (25-27 June) and Rally Weiz Historic (16-18 July) follow mid-summer, ahead of the all-new Ulster International Rally (7-9 August), Northern Ireland’s first appearance on the EHRC Calendar. The campaign concludes in Italy with Rally Elba Storico (24-26 September) and Sanremo Rally Storico (16-17 October) along the Ligurian coast.

For gravel specialists, the new FIA EHRC Gravel Championship will feature five rounds, providing a championship dedicated to gravel competition within the FIA historic rally framework. The 2026 season begins in Greece with the Historic Acropolis Rally (23-24 May) before moving to Portugal for Historic Rally Fafe (19-20 June). Northern Europe then takes centre stage with the return of the Lahti Historic Rally (20-22 August) and the addition of the new East Sweden Historic Rally (28-29 August). The season then concludes in Tuscany with a new round in the championship, Rally del Brunello (27-28 November), a fitting finale set against the region’s rolling hills.

FIA Historic Motor Sport Committee President, Roger Wills said “The new FIA European Historic Rally Championships structure encourages growth by giving competitors from different eras and surfaces a clear and dedicated platform within the FIA historic rally framework. Those passionate about the iconic 1993–2000 generation now have a championship to compete among comparable machinery, while the heritage of pre-1992 cars is safeguarded through a series focused solely on that era. The introduction of the FIA EHRC Gravel Championship will broaden participation further, easing the logistical challenges of switching setups and strengthening overall engagement in historic rallying. The 2026 calendars also represent a significant expansion of the FIA Historic Rally footprint, with seven exciting new rounds joining the EHRC umbrella.”
