Rally New Zealand Day Three

SEASON 2012

Rally New Zealand Day Three

FIA WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
BROTHER RALLY NEW ZEALAND
(21-24 JUNE 2012)

24.06.2012

The Citroën Total World Rally Team crew of Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena claimed their fifth victory of the season in the seventh round of the FIA World Rally Championship, Brother Rally New Zealand. Team-mates Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen claimed second with Petter Solberg and Chris Patterson taking the final podium position.

In the FIA World Rally Championship, Loeb once again extends his advantage and the Frenchman is now 38 points ahead of Hirvonen. Solberg moves into third in the series, now ahead of Mads Østberg who did not contest Rally New Zealand. In the Manufacturers’ Championship, maximum points for the Citroën Total World Rally Team - for the third consecutive rally - gives it a 93 point lead over Ford.

The final day of Rally New Zealand was the shortest and covered seven stages and 61.33 competitive kilometres north of Auckland. The closing Power Stage offered an additional three, two and one point for the fastest three drivers and here, Jari-Matti Latvala, Solberg and Loeb scooped the extra points. Rain during the day made conditions tricky for the crews but with such a short day of competition, there was little opportunity to close the gaps. All the leading crews made it to the finish without problems, although Ott Tänak rolled out of fifth position during a battle with the chasing Thierry Neuville, who won three of the day’s stages.

The FIA World Rally Championship crews now take a five-week break before the next round in Europe, Neste Oil Rally Finland (1-4 August).
