Sébastien Ogier ended Friday at Rally Islas Canarias at the head of a remarkable TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team top-five lockout, following a dominant opening full day of competition on the high-grip asphalt roads of Gran Canaria.

Kean Nakamura-Berta has secured the FIA Formula Regional European Championship’s first provisional pole position following qualifying for the inaugural event at the Red Bull Ring in Austria today (Friday).

Formula 1 today announced that the Turkish Grand Prix will return to the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2027, with Istanbul Park confirmed on the calendar through the 2031 season following a new agreement with Türkiye’s Ministry of Youth and Sports. The Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) will be Formula 1’s delivery partner for the future events.

The FIA has announced the three FIA Region I (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Champions for the third edition of the FIA Innovation Challenge 2026 at its Spring Meeting in Budva, Montenegro. Out of 34 entries, this year’s winners are Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC, Germany), Automobile Association of Tanzania (AA, Tanzania), and the Caravan and Motorhome Club (CAMC, United Kingdom). The FIA Innovation Challenge celebrates projects from across the four FIA Mobility Regions in the Member Clubs’ network, with the FIA Region I Champions the first to be announced.

In a first-of-its-kind partnership, FIA member club RFEDA and renowned constructor RMC Motorsport will develop a next-generation 2027 Rally1 car for the championship’s next regulatory era. RMC Motorsport to draw on nearly a decade of experience designing, manufacturing and developing Group N5 rally cars. The project marks the second new constructor set to join the FIA World Rally Championship as it enters its next regulatory era in 2027.

Following consultation with all stakeholders, it has been agreed that Free Practice 1 (FP1) at the Miami Grand Prix will be extended to 90 minutes.

The meeting highlighted the FIA’s leadership role across motorsport and mobility Ben Sulayem: “Montenegro has the potential to lead the region in delivering safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility.” Key topics included road safety and motorsport development

An exciting new chapter begins in Austria this week when the all-new FIA Formula Regional European Championship gets under way at the Red Bull Ring.

The FIA is expanding its Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life Programme into Africa and the Middle East, helping improve road safety throughout these regions. The announcement was made during the FIA Region I Spring Meeting in Budva, Montenegro, and follows the successful introduction of the FIA Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme in the Americas (FIA Regions III and IV), Asia-Pacific (FIA Region II), and FIA Region I COFO (Eastern and Central Europe). 

The FIA World Rally Championship resumes at Rally Islas Canarias - Rally of Spain (April 23-26) for round five of the 2026 season, just 11 days on from the dramatic conclusion of the previous event in Croatia.
