FIA Prize Giving 2021

As every year, the time has come to celebrate the talent and skills of our motor sport champions.

Even if due to COVID-19, some events had to be called off in the best interest of the competitors and all stakeholders, 2021 has seen many sport achievements.

Thanks to the health protocol in place, another page of our history has been written. Max Verstappen won his first F1 title. In WRC, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia also won their 8th drivers’ and co-drivers’ title.

Once again, our family made every effort in order to safeguard as many competitions as possible showing creativity, flexibility, resilience.

This evening, in the grand setting of Le Louvre, we acknowledge not only our champions, but also those who have captured the imagination of the motor sport community through incredible driving, their personality, and those who have created an impression at the outset of their careers.

Supporting every driver’s champion is a group of passionate people who contribute greatly to their success. Accordingly, our appreciation extends to the manufacturers, the teams and the unsung heroes working behind the scenes.

I would also like to pay tribute to the thousands of volunteers and marshals who freely dedicate their time to ensuring the safety and success of events all over the world. Without them, motor sport simply would not be possible.

I want to thank all of our competitors for their participation to the FIA’s #PurposeDriven initiative. It is through their collective efforts in shining a light on health and safety, the environment as well as diversity and inclusion that we can all make a positive contribution to society.

This will be my last Prize Giving Awards ceremony as FIA President. I have fond memories of all the amazing world champions down the years and will continue to follow the progress of tonight’s victors, in particular our younger winners, with keen interest as I embark on my future endeavours.

I am pleased that, during my term of office, my FIA team has established a solid foundation upon which to create a bright future for tomorrow’s champions.

I extend to our entire motor sport community my heartfelt wishes for your continued enjoyment, health and well-being.

Jean Todt

FIA President
