Middle East Rally Championship
Middle East Rally Championship
Held since 1984, the FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) opens up an exceptional playground for rally drivers and teams on a varied terrain featuring sand deserts and overheated tarmac.
Nasser Al-Attiyah has competed in the FIA Middle East Rally Championship since 2003 and equalled Mohammed bin Sulayem’s record of fourteen title wins in 2018, when he placed his Ford Fiesta R5 on the top spot of the leaderboard.
In 2019 he grabbed a record-extending sixth victory, sealing his 15th title win in a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5. The Qatari and his faithful co-driver from France, Mathieu Baumel, have shown indisputable domination, having won each of the four rounds of the championship to build a strong lead of 90 points over their closest rivals Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari from Qatar & his British co-driver Marshall Clarke.
The following MERC titles are awarded:
- FIA Middle East Rally Championship for Drivers and Co-Drivers
- FIA MERC 2 for Drivers and Co-Drivers
- FIA MERC 3 for Drivers and Co-Drivers
- FIA MERC Junior Championship for Drivers under 26
