The Graham family are well known on the FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship. Ernie and Karen Graham are multiple Category 1 winners with their Ford Escort Twin Cam, while son Will is contesting Category 4 in a BMW E30 M3 for the first time in 2019. In Finland last month Will Graham secured his first Category 4 win on the Lahti Historic Rally.

After the gravel roads of Finland, the 2019 European Historic Sporting Rally Championship heads south to Italy with the Rally Alpi Orientali Historic hosting Round 7. This will be the first of two visits to Italy, with the Rally Elba Storico being held on 19-21 September. A total of 61 entries have been received by the organisers of the Rally Alpi Orientali Historic, with 26 eligible for championship points.

With the 2019 season now two thirds complete, the FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship heads to Italy for Round 7 of 9, the Rally Alpi Orientali Historic on 30/31 August. The battle for the four category titles is now even more intense following the results from the only gravel rally on the calendar, round 6 which was the Lahti Historic Rally in Finland.

After the top two cars went off track into retirement on day two, the no4 Audi Quattro of Finland’s Antero Laine and Topi Luhtinen finished the 2019 Lahti Historic Rally in first place, with the no7 Toyota Starlet 1300 of Esa Peltonen and Jyrki Saarto in second and the first EHSRC entrant across the finish line. The Toyota was 1m03.5s behind the Audi and 9.9 seconds ahead of the no2 Audi Quattro of ‘Zippo’ and Nicola Arena, the Italians finishing 3rd overall. However in post event scrutineering the no4 Audi was found to not be in compliance with the Historic Technical Passport (HTP) for the car and was disqualified from the event.

Unsurprisingly the top three overall places at the end of Day 1 of the 2019 Lahti Historic Rally is filled by Finnish entries with the Category 4 no5 Audi Quattro A2 of Ville Silvasti leading by 26.4 seconds. The Category 3 no1 Volvo 242 of Jari Kankaanmaki is in second place, with the no4 Audi Quattro of Antero Laine in third.
