The FIA’s National Sporting Authority (ASN) in Lebanon, the Automobile et Touring Club du Liban (ATCL) has become a Regional Training Provider (RTP) for drivers, adding a further discipline to its existing role as an RTP for officials.

As part of the requirements to become part of the FIA’s growing RTP network, the ATCL was subjected to rigorous assessment process to achieve its certification allowing it to provide training to other ASNs.

The ATCL impressed the FIA’s assessors with the standard of its driver training programme, which covers a broad curriculum and can be offered at several levels and a variety of age groups. It is not only focused on driver training, but also talent identification across the region.

In addition to driving techniques, topics that are offered as part of their young driver programme include fitness, nutrition, career development, media skills and team dynamics, all of which can be adapted to particular client needs – and which is delivered by a team of trainers with a wealth of skills and experience that will now be able to provide a high level of training to other ASNs in the region, as well as opportunities for testing overseas for the top talents. 

Part of the ATCL’s success has come from a clear focus on each driver’s individual needs, providing ongoing coaching and mentoring, not just during the programme but also when the formal programme has concluded, ensuring that the young drivers receive continuous support and guidance. 

ATCL President, Fouad El Khazen, says the club is very proud of its latest recognition.

“It is a wonderful achievement for our Club to become a Regional Training Provider for drivers,” said Mr El Khazen. “We thank the FIA in believing in our programme.

“We are a small country in the Middle East, but one of the most active and heavily involved in motor sport.

“Thanks to the work of our Sports and Mobility Coordinator, Mr. Imad Lahoud and his team, we were able to organise a Young Driver Training Programme in Lebanon that we can now pass on and customise for our neighbouring countries – and also to further promote this great sport to involve and find more talented young drivers in the region.”
