FIA Karting President Felipe Massa wanted to be in attendance in Sweden for the last big sporting event of the 2018 season, the FIA Karting World Championship - OK and Junior held in Kristianstad from 20th to 23rd September. With his great appreciation of competition, he enjoyed the extremely high standard of racing and was pleased with the increase in the number of participants.

This year, 13 GP1 karts will compete on the 1384m Le Mans Karting International Circuit as part of the FIA Karting Endurance Championship. Lightweight and powerful, these machines, powered by the latest generation OK engines, have also demonstrated their excellent reliability in the previous two editions.

Patrik Hajek (CZE) became FIA Karting World Champion - KZ in Genk (BEL) this weekend. Kobe Pauwels (BEL) won the FIA Karting Academy Trophy Final where the Trophy was won by Jose Maria Navalon Boya (ESP) and Matteo Vigano (ITA) triumphed in the FIA Karting International Super Cup - KZ2. The Genk Competition will be remembered as a remarkable event thanks to the show, the quality of the organisation and the large audience.

The last European Competition of the 2018 FIA Karting season kept all its promises at the Aunay-les-Bois / Essay circuit. Exceptional performances and multiple twists came with the victories by Gabriele Mini' in Junior and Dexter Patterson in OK. But the titles went to Drivers who had accumulated enough points in the ranking previously to negotiate this last Competition with relative caution, a task that is not always easy. Paul Aron (EST) is the new FIA Karting European Junior Champion, while Hannes Janker (DEU) has become FIA Karting European Champion in OK without finishing the Final.

The FIA held its first FIA Karting Educational Programme on 12 July at the South Garda Karting track in Lonato, Italy, with F1 driver Charles Leclerc joining the CIK Commission and the FIA Safety department in equipping 51 young Karting Academy Drivers, aged 12-14, for success.

The new President of the FIA Karting, Felipe Massa, made a point of honouring the launch of the 2018 European Championships with his presence in Italy. During the two days he spent at the Sarno circuit, Felipe Massa had the opportunity to observe the progress of the Competition closely and to talk with many players in international Karting.
