On Sunday 21 November, on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDoR), the FIA Community honoured the memory of road traffic victims.

Celebrated by the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR) since 1995 and endorsed by the United Nations since 2005, WDoR is a major advocacy day for road traffic injury prevention. It aims at remembering those who died, supporting those who survived and acting for better post-crash response (Remember. Support. Act).

This year, WDoR put the spotlight on the reduction of traffic speeds – low speeds, in the continuum of what has been done during the 2021 UN Global Road Safety Week. The reduction of traffic speeds has the potential to prevent many deaths and serious injuries, in particular those of pedestrians and all other vulnerable road users – children, elderly and the disabled.

FIA President Jean Todt, who also serves as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, said: “As we celebrate the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, I stand in solidarity and extend support to all those severely impacted by road traffic crashes. As we start our United Nations Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, I urgently call on every citizen, company, and government to take on their responsibility to making our roads a safe place. Today, not only do we remember those we ‎lost and honour their lives, it is also an ‎opportunity to look forward and put in place concrete actions towards an ultimate vision zero.”

The FIA Formula One World Championship and the FIA World Rally Championship promoted WDoR2021 by organising family pictures in Qatar and Italy.
