CHAMPIONNAT D’AFRIQUE DES RALLYES

SEASON 2024

CHAMPIONNAT D’AFRIQUE DES RALLYES

The FIA African Rally Championship (ARC) continues to feature a range of challenging but spectacular events thanks to the stunning landscapes of the Sub-Sahara.

Launched in 1981, the ARC benefits from the enthusiastic support of many of the continent’s ASNs and remains a key driver in encouraging motor sport participation across the region.

Boosted by Kenya’s return to the FIA World Rally Championship in 2021, the ARC has grown in stature in recent years following the disruption caused by the global health pandemic. However, in response to financial considerations, the 2024 ARC will be contested over six rounds after a seven-event schedule was followed in 2023.

As well as Rally2, Rally3, Rally4, Rally5 and new-for-2024 Rally5-Kit machinery, Group N4 and R4 cars are permitted for use in the FIA ARC2 category, while eligible T4 Cross-Country cars can compete on events in a separate T4 class. Rally cars homologated by Motorsport South Africa can also be used on ARC events with their drivers eligible for points.

FIA Junior ARC is for drivers 28 and under on January 1, 2024, entered in any eligible car.

What’s new for 2024?

  • The Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, which ran as round three in 2023, opens the season followed by events in Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania, Burundi and Kenya.
  • Rallye Côte d'Ivoire Bandama won’t host the ARC in 2024 in line with a cost-focused calendar, having run as the 2023 season opener.
  • Rally5-Kit cars, which can be homologated at local level in collaboration with the FIA Technical Department, are permitted for ARC action. The exciting move will allow the use of parts and expertise available locally to deliver more cost-effective competition cars.
