PRESS RELEASE

The first 2012 meeting of the World Motor Sport Council took place today, 9 March, in Milan, Italy, and the following decisions were taken:

FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The changes to the 2012 Regulations have been approved by the Formula One Commission.

One set of dry-weather tyres may now be carried over to Saturday if both Friday sessions are declared wet; it is hoped that this will result in teams carrying out more laps on Saturday.

Changes have been made to the personnel curfew to ensure the rest periods remain constant throughout the season, irrespective of the timing of practice sessions at particular events.

The race director may now prohibit the use of the adjustable rear wing (DRS) if he feels visibility is too poor in wet conditions. This has been done as a result of safety concerns over large speed differentials between cars.

FIA WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

After the termination of its contract with North One Sport at the beginning of the year, the FIA is finalising an interim solution for the promotion of the WRC for the rest of the 2012 season. In this light, a deal has been struck with the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) for the distribution of the media rights for the Rally of Mexico. For 2013 onwards, the FIA has received a great number of expressions of interest and is confident in building in consultation with the main WRC stakeholders a strong promotional platform for the long-term growth of the championship.

With immediate effect, Priority 1 drivers must adhere to the tyre regulations pertaining to Manufacturer or WRC Team entries.

RALLYING

The date of the Kuwait Rally has been changed to 12-14 April, and the Jordan Rally has been moved to 11-13 October.

Following many meetings between the FIA, the ACO and the LMP manufacturers, the main guidelines of the 2014 LMP1 technical regulations have been approved. The details will now be finalised by the World Endurance Championship Commission.
