Excessive speed is one of the leading causes of road fatalities. An estimated 40%-50% of people drive over the speed limit and a 5% reduction in average speed could result in a 30% decrease in number of fatal crashes. Today, FIA Region I and its members in Europe, the Middle East and Africa are launching their new campaign ‘Slowing Down Saves Lives’ and are urging drivers to respect speed limits.

The World First Aid Day (WFAD) is organised annually by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) on the second Saturday of September to raise awareness of how first aid can save lives. This year, the WFAD takes place on 8 September and focuses on the theme of ‘First Response to Road Crashes’, encapsulated by the official slogan “You don’t need a license to save lives”.

On 12 May, the final of the ‘Best Young Driver of Bulgaria’ competition took place at Drakon track, near the village of Kaloyanovo, in the Plovdiv municipality. Thirty finalists underwent practical tests such as changing a flat tire, delivering first aid, and handling a vehicle in low traction conditions.
