WRC - 2015 Rallye Deutschland - Preview

14.08.15
After a string of loose surface events, the FIA World Rally Championship contenders head to asphalt for the ninth round of the series, ADAC Rallye Deutschland, which is based in the Roman city of Trier

It is viewed as one of the trickiest events on the calendar with its variety of different roads in the vineyards, military grounds and scenic countryside which, when combined with unpredictable weather conditions, call for precision driving and perfect tyre choices.

On sealed surface events, WRC crews are permitted a route note crew who drive the stages ahead of the competitors, checking road conditions and assessing the weather. Working effectively with this crew, and predicting the weather patterns, is vital to ensuring drivers have the most up-to-date information, especially when choosing tyres.

As the battle for the Championship title continues, reigning FIA World Rally Champions Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia have their first opportunity of securing a third crown. While some of their close rivals could mathematically prevent him from wrapping up the title in Germany, there is nevertheless a chance for the Frenchmen, although three crashes in the last two years makes it far from a foregone conclusion.

THE 2015 ROUTE

Friday’s route takes the contenders close to the Luxembourg and Belgian borders and includes the Mittelmosel stage which was last used in 2011. Country roads around St Wendel await on Saturday, including the returning Bosenberg stage which was last run in 2007. The day also includes a visit to the military grounds and the daunting Panzerplatte stages, the longest being a challenging 45.61 kilometres. Sunday takes in stages around the Mosel wine region and the event will reach its climax on the Dhrontal Power Stage for the first time.
