FIA Mobility Regional meeting gathers clubs from Europe, Middle East and Africa

FIA Region I, which brings together 118 FIA Motoring and Touring Clubs and their 38 million members from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, held its annual Spring Meeting in Tunis, Tunisia on 5-8 May 2015.

The conference was hosted by the National Automobile Club de Tunisie and its President Chadly Zouiten, and was attended by 63 clubs from 53 countries, FIA President Jean Todt and also FIA Region I President Thierry Willemarck.

A number of sub regions met on this occasion including the African Council for Touring and Automobile Clubs (ACTA), the Arab Council of Touring and Automobile Clubs (ACTAC), the Coordination forum for Eastern and Central European Countries (COFO), and the Nordic Clubs’ Coordination Forum (NOCOF). An FIA’s International Historical Commission meeting was also held. 

The FIA’s Eurocouncil approved a declaration entitled ‘The Path to Automated Motoring’ for 2015. The declaration encourages the EU Institutions to support the swift and safe deployment of automated motoring by putting in place the appropriate framework conditions to reap the full benefits in terms of safety, efficiency and comfort.

A representative of Uber, the American international transportation network company, gave a keynote speech highlighting the company’s vision for the future of urban, on-demand mobility and changes in car ownership, challenging the FIA Mobility Clubs to capitalise on the latest mobility trends.

A meeting of the World Council for Automobile Mobility and Tourism and a session of the FIA University were also held in Tunis.
