The 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship will kick off in a few weeks and organisers, teams, manufacturers and drivers are already hard at work. With 11 meetings (33 races) on the programme representing a distance of around 10,000 km, to which six days of collective testing should also be added, this championship gives young drivers a unique, optimised amount of track time. The first collective test session will begin in early April (4-5 April) on the Hungaroring in Budapest. The second pre-season test will take place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on 8-9 April. The 2014 season will kick off on 19-20 April in Silverstone in the context of the FIA World Endurance Championship. 

 

To enable debutant drivers in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship to show their talent, the weekend schedule has been revised: A regular 2014 race weekend provides the young-guns with nearly four hours track time to gain precious experience in their cars. On Friday after two 40-minute free practice sessions, the first qualifying session will take place in the late afternoon. Qualifying 1 will decide the grid positions for the first race on Saturday morning. The second qualifying session will be held in the late afternoon on Saturday. The fastest time of each driver will decide the grid positions for race 2, and the second-quickest time will be used to attribute the places for race 3. These two heats will take place on Sunday morning and afternoon.

 

In addition to the traditional rounds at Silverstone (Great Britain), Hockenheim (Germany), Norisring (Germany), Red Bull Ring (Austria) and the Nürburgring (Germany), five new circuits appear on the 2014 programme : Pau (France), the Hungaroring (Hungary), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Moscow Raceway (Russia) and Imola (Italy). 

 

These 11 events will allow tomorrow’s stars to battle on Formula 1 circuits, on legendary tracks linked to the history of Formula 3 and to race in countries like Russia where motor sport is expanding rapidly. In order to help the teams for this trip to Moscow, a joint logistics backup has been put in place. Additionally each team entered in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship will receive an aid of 4,000 Euros per car. 

 

A specific rookie classification will be established in 2014.
