During the official day of FIA Formula 3 European Championship testing at the 4.381-kilometre long Hungaroring, Sérgio Sette Câmara (Motopark, 1:33.660 minutes) proved to be invincible. In sunny conditions, partly combined with a cool wind, the Brazilian beat Canadian Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam, 1:33.679 minutes) in the battle for the top position on the time sheets, with George Russell (HitechGP, 1:34.070 minutes) securing third position. So, drivers for three different teams clinched the top-three positions.

“It was a productive day of testing. I learned a lot and completed a lot of laps,” Lance Stroll said. “I like the circuit. Racing here is fun. Thanks to the new tarmac that was applied only short before our test day, nearly all bumps are gone. But should the rain forecasted for the race weekend really fall it might get somewhat slippery. Nonetheless, I don’t worry.”

Behind Sette Câmara, Stroll und Russell, Maximilian Günther (Prema Powerteam, 1:34.227 minutes) and the three fastest rookies, Niko Kari (Motopark, 1:34.267), Joel Eriksson (Motopark, 1:34.290) and Guanyu Zhou (Motopark, 1:34.307) secured the positions four to seven. Callum Ilott (Van Amersfoort Racing, 1:34.388 minutes) and championship leader Nick Cassidy (Prema Powerteam, 1:34.412) couldn’t confirm the impressive performances they delivered in the season kick-off at Le Castellet and had to settle for finishing eighth and ninth respectively. Rookie Anthoine Hubert (Van Amersfoort Racing, 1:34.462 minutes) completed the top 10. .

Pedro Piquet (Van Amersfoort Racing, 1:34.730 minutes) whose father was the winner of the maiden Hungarian GP, back in 1986, finished 14th. “The tests went well and I’m optimistic for the weekend,” said the Brazilian who completed his first single-seater laps at the Hungaroring. “But this circuit doesn’t mean more to me than any other. I give my very best wherever I’m racing.”

The unlucky fellow of the day was Mikkel Jensen (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport, 1:35.614 minutes). The Dane went over the cover of a rain gutter that had broken loose, thus damaging both his right radiator and the monocoque. “This is really annoying,” he said. “It cost me half the day of testing that would have helped me to gather a lot of experience at this circuit an in addition, we could have worked on the set-up.” At the end of the day, he was 19th in the overall standings. Arjun Maini (ThreeBond with T-Sport, 1:36.459 minutes) who finished right behind him also wasn’t happy with his achievements. “Actually we should be closer to the top,” he said. “I think we’ve got a problem with the car. But I’ve got a great and extremely experienced team and therefore I’m convinced that we soon be back on the way up.”
