Macau, World Cup

Two of the most experienced and successful drivers at Macau have welcomed a newcomer to the podium at the start of his career.

Daniel Ticktum ( MotoPark with VEB Dallara VW) won the FIA F3 World Cup in audacious and spectacular fashion watched by ‘Mr Macau’ Edoardo Mortara and the most successful touring car driver ever at the circuit Rob Huff.

Mortara ( Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy) won the FIA GT World Cup and Huff ( Citroen C-Elysee) won the FIA World Touring Car Championship Round nine final to make up a unique triple.

Three FIA championships have never before been held at the Macau GP.

Mortara’s win gave him four GT victories and two F3 GP wins while Huff’s win elevated him to nine touring car victories at the circuit – more than any other driver or rider in any category.

Ticktum drove a F3 car for the first time as a 17-year-old in the 2016 FIA F3 World Cup at Macau but was eliminated in a mid-race crash.

This year he claimed the top step of the podium with the maturity of an 18-year-old.

“ Some would say I got lucky , but I think I worked for this win, “ Ticktum said.

Mortara and Huff, who’ve made their own luck at the Guia circuit were in full agreement.
