DID YOU KNOW IT?

26 September 2004 – The circuit designed by Hermann Tilke hosted the first Chinese Formula One Grand Prix. Started from pole position, Rubens Barrichello claimed his last victory for Ferrari, beating Kimi Räikkönen’s McLaren-Mercedes and Jenson Button’s BAR-Honda.

6 November 2011 – WTCC’s first visit to China took place at the Shanghai Tianma Circuit, where the Chevrolet drivers dominated. In the first race Alain Menu’s factory Cruze beat Colin Turkington’s identical car by a narrow margin; in Race 2 Yvan Muller benefited from a contact between his team-mate Rob Huff and Gabriele Tarquini’s SEAT to claim a victory that propelled him towards his third WTCC title.

4 November 2012 – The first WTCC event at the Shanghai International Circuit was not a lucky one for Yvan Muller who was caught in two different incidents. The second one, a clash with Alain Menu in Race 2, cost him a time penalty. Huff finished second and first in the two races, which proved instrumental for claiming the title two weeks later at Macau.

3 November 2013 – Tiago Monteiro won the second race. This was the first WTCC victory for the Portuguese driver since Valencia 2010, and also his first one for Honda. It was a triumphant race for the Japanese manufacturer that placed two other Civic cars in second (Gabriele Tarquini) and third (Norbert Michelisz).
