ETCC - 2017 Race of Most - Post-Qualifying Press Conference

ETCC, Race of Most

Present:
Norbert Nagy, Zengő Motorsport, first position
Christjohannes Schreiber, Rikli Motorsport, second position
Petr Fulín, Křenek Motorsport, third position

Q:
Norbi, you hadn't been the fastest man this weekend, but you pulled off an amazing fastest lap in the Qualifying. How did you manage that?

NN:
The secret of this fast lap was that I put new tyres only to the front of the car. That resulted in a bit of an oversteer in every corner and that was the fastest way, I think. I realised that only during this session. Tomorrow my plan is just to stay on pole position.

Q:
You had a technical issue at the start of a race in Zolder. Has the team fixed it?

NN:
Yes, we found the problem: the turbo charger sensor was not plugged. When tried it plugged I burned my tyres! So let's see my start tomorrow.

Q:
You and Christjohannes are both on 59 points, with Petr on 64 now. Christjohannes, only one thousandth of a second separates you from Petr. You also had mixed results so far this weekend, but talk us through your fastest lap.

CS:
It wasn't perfect, to be honest. Our target was to have a car like Norbi described. In the end my car was very fast but it could have been better, so we still have some work to do tonight, but I'm convinced my team will give me a rocket tomorrow.

Q:
We know about Honda's fast starts - are you relying partly on that tomorrow?

CS:
Like Norbi said before - not anymore! He found the problem so he will be as fast as I will be, I think.

Q:
So what is your approach for tomorrow's races?

CS:
I try to focus only on myself and I try to win every race I participate in, so that's the goal for tomorrow as well - like every race this year, so nothing new [there].

Q:
Petr, it was a very close Qualifying, are you satisfied with third place?

PF:
To be honest I'm not so much happy with third place, I expected better results. It's good for the championship, with eighty-seven thousandth of a second gap to Norbi and one thousandth of a second gap to Christjohannes. It's impossible to imagine a smaller gap between us. I'm looking forward to both races tomorrow.

Q:
I know you hate strategy talks beforehand, but still - what's the first plan for tomorrow?

PF:
I really hate talking about strategies. I have only one - to finish the first race, because the next one starts immediately. Of course, I would like to be in the front but I think that's not necessary to talk about now.

Q:
What are your main concerns tomorrow?

PF:
Everyone here knows that the weather is crazy - from Wednesday already, that's why the track will not be very grippy, I think. It means the set-up and the tyre degradation could be very important. That's why we will see tomorrow how we calculate our speed. Also rain is possible maybe in both races. It's very difficult to say [what will happen].

Q:
Would you prefer dry or wet conditions tomorrow?

PF:
I prefer absolutely clear conditions. It's very bad for everybody, if - during qualifying of practices - you have a single five-minute window when it's dry and it's possible to push - and you miss it because you happen to be in the pits at that time. For this final event, where I expect a lot of guests, I prefer dry conditions.
