Based on feedback from the opening events of the FIA Formula One World Championship, and taking account of the evolving situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) of the FIA, the governing body of world motor sport, has approved today an extended scope of the Appendix S of the International Sporting Code.

Under the direction of FIA Medical Commission President, Professor Gérard Saillant, the Appendix S protocols have been translated to all FIA Championships, cups, trophies, challenges, series, and international series registered on the FIA international sporting calendar, to coincide with the resumption of competition for a number of FIA-regulated events.

The extension includes the same key sanitary measures of the Formula One protocol: mandatory social distancing, PCR pre-testing, wearing of face masks and hand hygiene, with adapted implementation to a smaller organisational structure. They are designed to limit the risk of transmission of COVID-19.

Professor Gérard Saillant said: “With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to evolve in characteristics and effect, the FIA, together with local health authorities is also adapting the measures we put in place to mitigate the risk of the virus spreading in a motor sport setting to enable all FIA-sanctioned events to return to racing in the safest possible environment.”

The FIA is the first international sports federation to have resumed its activities at the international level thanks to the strict sanitary protocols.
