WEC, WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, press conference

1st - Lucas di Grassi - #8 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R18: “What a crazy race! We really didn’t expect this result. In the end, it was about endurance racing qualities and we were the only driver squad in a hybrid sports car to finish without issues. Following the season opener at Silverstone, Audi provided us with a very reliable car today. I’m very happy about my first victory with this team. This is a motivational boost for all of us. Now I’m wishing for us to have a good race at Le Mans.”

1st - Loïc Duval - #8 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R18: “The entire squad worked hard and deserves this victory. These 25 points are valuable for all of us because it means a barren spell for number ‘8’ has ended. However, we shouldn’tforget that our number ‘7’ sister car, after many setbacks, recovered and scored important points for Audi as well.”

1st - Oliver Jarvis - #8 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R18: “This was our first joint victory. Especially in this of all races we hardly expected it, because our pure lap times weren’t good enough this weekend. But we stayed clear of all trouble and did a good job of finishing the race. That’s a fantastic success for the team which it has deserved for a long time. What a great feeling before Le Mans.”

2nd - Romain Dumas - #2 Porsche Team Porsche 919 Hybrid:  “In the end I was taking the car round the track really carefully. It wasn’t easy at all today. The championship points are a reward for the mechanics who worked extremely hard here and kept repairing our cars.”

2nd - Neel Jani - #2 Porsche Team Porsche 919 Hybrid: “This was very special today. Without the full power from the hybrid system, traffic is difficult and you have to take care of the brake temperatures a lot. We have been treating our 919 as carefully as we could and then we were repeatedly promoted as others got in trouble.”

2nd - Marc Lieb - #2 Porsche Team Porsche 919 Hybrid: “It was a bit frustrating not to have the full hybrid power after lap six. We were quite busy in the cockpit driving to finish the race under those circumstances. The car is set up for the strong four-wheel drive when accelerating from the corners. But we managed to bring the car home and were rewarded with big points.”

3rd - Alexandre Imperatori - #13 Rebellion R-One AER: " Obviously it’s mega, it’s a dream result, the same as Silverstone but this time we enjoyed the podium celebration and it makes it all different! It was a real team effort, they did a great job, our guys and engineers brought us to this position. We had no problems with the car, we need to continue like this and we aim to do it again at Le Mans."

3rd - Dominik Kraihamer - #13 Rebellion R-One AER: " It’s an awesome result for us and the team, especially as next race will be Le Mans. The team deserve results like we had in Silverstone and here. The contact  with the P2 is my mistake, I was careful but the car braked a bit early I think, we saw later that they were having brake problems, it’s part of motor racing and l only lost a bit of time in this incident. Everything worked well for us during the race and I hope it will continue like this !"

3rd - Mathéo Tuscher - #13 Rebellion R-One AER: " A great result, I am super happy. A tough race, but we managed the strategy and track conditions well. My teammates did a great job. We were P4 when I took the wheel and then I was told over the radio that we were P3, but I didn’t know why until I jumped out of the car at the end of my stint. It’s a very good feeling being P3 at Spa. I don’t know, but some people think that I am the youngest driver to be on a FIA WEC podium, we will have to investigate! "

5th - Marcel Fässler - #7 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R18: “We had a lot of issues at Spa. Having so many contacts with other cars was unusual. After the practice sessions, the situation wasn’t easy, but at the beginning of the race we were running pretty well after all. But then we had to change the underfloor, clean the radiators, I touched an LMP2 race car, and in the end a rival hit the rear of my car. For the whole field the race was pretty chaotic.”

5th - André Lotterer - #7 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R18: “This is what you’d call a ‘character-building’ race. We knew it would be difficult, plus a lot went wrong for us in a race that was simply mad. Congratulations to number ‘8’ on a great race. Our teammates have been waiting for this victory for a long time. This is a sweet and well-deserved result. Now we’re all concentrating on Le Mans.”

5th - Benoît Tréluyer - #7 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R18:  “This was a tough race in which fortune wasn’t on our side.I’m happy that our sister car did so well. Our three teammates deserve this victory. A big ‘thank you’ goes to our pit crew that did a perfect job of handling a large workload. That makes us confident for Le Mans. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to reward them with a better result.”

7th - Anthony Davidson - #5 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS050 Hybrid: “Obviously it is really disappointing, having looked so good earlier in the race. I really feel we deserved it today and it was cruelly taken away due to a problem we have never seen before. In all of the kilometres we have done in testing, we have never seen such a problem. Now we have to dust ourselves off and get ready for Le Mans.”

7th - Sébastien Buemi - #5 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS050 Hybrid: “We cannot be happy but we have to take the positives. We were leading the race by a long way and I don’t remember the last time that happened. The performance was there and that is the positive out of this weekend. Now we focus on Le Mans and fight back.”

7th - Kazuki Nakajima - #5 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS050 Hybrid:  “A difficult day for us. I think we did everything right in terms of tyre choice, downforce level and strategy. The positive side is that we were really competitive and we showed we can fight. But it’s disappointing to end like this, because it was a great chance to win. I feel sorry for all the team.”

8th - Timo Bernhard - #1 Porsche Team Porsche 919 Hybrid:  “Today we definitely had the pace to win that race. The battle with Sébastien was good fun. Our strategy was alright and I believe I would have left him behind in the end. But in motor sports you just cannot control everything. Most probably I ran over debris in the last chicane where there had been accidents. Then I had to do a complete lap with the damaged tyre and that caused more damage, highly likely including the broken front gearbox. But, whatever, we now fully focus on going to Le Mans for the season’s highlight.”

8th - Brendon Hartley - #1 Porsche Team Porsche 919 Hybrid: “I had a good start, the car felt fine. In the second half of the stint we had a big tyre drop-off. No one had expected such high track temperatures here. Theoretically we would have had to double-stint a set of tyres later in the race. Unfortunately we don’t know how that would have worked because we were set back by other issues. In the end it was good to bring the car home.”

8th - Mark Webber - #1 Porsche Team Porsche 919 Hybrid:  “The guys did a great job in getting the car back on track. Again we learnt a lot, but it was a tough day for our car crew. For the team it’s great what car number 2 has achieved despite their problems.”

NC - Stéphane Sarrazin - #6 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS050 Hybrid:  “It was a very difficult day; the most difficult for us in a long time. We had strong performance and both cars should have finished on the podium. We looked good and that’s encouraging for Le Mans. We have the car to fight and we have one month to get ready.”

NC - Mike Conway - #6 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS050 Hybrid: “That was tough. I made a mistake, touching an LMP2 car and that damaged our race. After that we were pushing as much as we could and got up into the podium places. We had a good strategy and things were working out. We could have had two podium finishes today but it wasn’t to be.”

NC - Kamui Kobayashi - #6 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS050 Hybrid: “Unfortunately it is a disappointing result for us. We showed the performance but we couldn’t show the result which is a real pity. The encouraging fact is the strong performance of the TS050 HYBRID, so we are looking forward to Le Mans.”
