Rafaelle Marcielo (Prema Powerteam) showed in Italy that racing on a circuit you know can give a decisive advantage. Harry Tincknell (Carlin) proved it again in the first race on the Silverstone circuit. On a track that was still damp at the start of the race the British driver notched his, his team’s and Volkswagen’s first win of the season.
“At Monza we were expecting a tough race as it was a track I didn’t really know and on which Carlin had very little Formula 3 experience,” said the first winner of the day. “We scored points in Italy, which was the best thing we could do. On the other hand, we knew when we arrived here that we had to do everything in our power to get the best out of the advantage of batting on home turf. It started well in qualifying with two pole positions.
“Today the early stages of the race weren’t easy as on slicks on a damp track I was the first to arrive in the treacherous zones. I had to keep Alex Lynn behind me and I also had to look after my tyres. To sum up it’s a great result but we’ve still got a lot of work to do. With three races every weekend you can’t draw any conclusions after one event or even one meeting.”
With Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam) second and Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteili24 Mücke Motorsport) third, three different teams shared the podium. “Harry and I know the track well as we’ve driven on it in Formula Renault 2.0 and the British F3 Championship,’ said Lynn. “That gives a small edge that we have to take advantage of but it’ll be the same elsewhere for other drivers.”
Lucas Auer (Prema Powerteam) and Nicholas Latifi (Carlin) completed the top five, while championship leader Rafaelle Marciello (Prema Powerteam) saw the flag in sixth place. William Buller (ThreeBond with T-Sport), Felix Serralles (Fortec Motorsports), Luis Derani (Fortec Motorsports) and Tom Blomqvist (Eurointernational) were the other points scorers this morning.
