More than 40 delegates from 19 member countries across the African continent attended the Congress in Kampala, Uganda from 26^th -28^th August 2015 at the Serena Kampala Hotel.

Those in attendance experienced two full days of National Sporting Authority (ASN) development training, detailing numerous practical measures Clubs could take to improve their services to members and events organization, especially motor sport safety.

The FIA’s Sport Regional Congresses have been instigated to provide its Member Clubs with the practical tools they need to appropriately administer, organize and promote motor sport in their home countries.

By localizing the Congresses, the aim has been to offer a more targeted programme specific to the region, and smaller groups for greater interaction and engagement.

Africa is a prime example of this specific local requirement, with the significant growth of rally and the priority for growing karting in the region identified as requiring special emphasis during the Congress.

Educational modules covered as part of the FIA Global Training Programme featured guidelines and tools, as well as practical exercises and demonstrations of best practice on the following topics;

• ASN structure and management
• Organising competitions
• Licensing and training
• Safety

The event was attended by the FIA President, Jean Todt and FIA Deputy President for Sport, Graham Stoker; both of whom left the event enthused by the climate of openness, dialogue and exchange in the region’s efforts to bolster the growth of motor sport in Africa.

Mr Todt also used the occasion to present the award for the best organized FIA African Rally Championship event for last season, which was won by the Sasol Rally South Africa.
