World RX of Canada - Trois Rivières - Qualifying 1

Team Peugeot Total’s Sebastien Loeb took first blood in the World RX of Canada, round seven of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Trois-Rivieres by beating his Peugeot team mates Kevin and Timmy Hansen in Q1 race three.

There were four different teams in the top four positions in Q1. EKS Audi Sport’s Mattias Ekstrom won race one and was second behind Loeb in the times, PSRX Volkswagen Sweden’s Petter Solberg won race two and was third and GRX Taneco’s Niclas Gronholm was second to Ekstrom in race one and was fourth.

Sweden’s Kevin Hansen tried to pass Loeb and Timmy Hansen around the outside at turn one but backed out before turn two. Timmy Hansen then ran wide and hit the wall on the exit of the corner and handed Loeb the lead. He survived to finish the race and was sixth quickest, behind Kevin Hansen.

The biggest battle in Q1 was between World RX Drivers’ Championship leader Johan Kristoffersson and EKS’ Andreas Bakkerud. Kristoffersson was second to team mate Solberg on lap one of race two but Bakkerud made a move to pass the reigning Champion on the loose section. The pair battled for position and Bakkerud came out on top, but both were overtaken by OlbergsMSE’s Kevin Eriksson who had taken an early joker when they took their jokers.

Belgium’s Guillaume De-Ridder was quickest in Q1 of the RX2 International Series in front of OlsbergsMSE team mate Oliver Eriksson and Team Faren’s Conner Martell.
