World RX - Hansen quickest in Q2, Solberg Top Qualifier

26.05.18

WorldRX - 2018 WorldRX of Great-Britain - Saturday Report

Team Peugeot Total’s Timmy Hansen continued his run of 2018 qualifying form by setting the quickest time in Q2 at the Cooper Tires World RX of Great Britain, round four of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Silverstone.

Sweden’s Hansen won Q2 race four and set a time that wouldn’t be beaten as Mattias Ekstrom beat Q1 winner Petter Solberg in Q2 race five to be second quickest. Third in Q2, Solberg holds the TQ (top qualifier) position on the first day of racing action at the Speedmachine Festival with Ekstrom second and Hansen third.

EKS Audi Sport’s Andreas Bakkerud survived bodywork rubbing on his Audi S1 EKS RX quattro’s left-rear tyre for most of Q2 race five and took his joker on the final lap to be fourth overall in the Q2 times, ahead of Team Peugeot Total’s Kevin Hansen, PSRX Volkswagen Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson and Hansen’s more experienced team mate Sebastien Loeb.

Finland’s Niclas Gronholm added an eighth time in Q2 to his sixth quickest time in Q1 to hold eighth in the Intermediate Classification with GC Kompetition’s Jerome Grosset-Janin winning Q3 race three ahead of Olsbergs MSE’s Kevin Eriksson – the pair ninth and tenth in Q2 and in the Intermediate standings.

Former European Rallycross Champion Tommy Rustad makes his return to World RX at Silverstone and was 11th in Q2, but former World Rally driver Mark Higgins was forced to retire in Q2 with broken suspension on Albatec Racing’s Peugeot 208. China’s Ma Quinghua unfortunately jumped the start of his Q2 race twice and wasn’t allowed to take the start.
