The Reial Automòbil Club de Catalunya (RACC), creator of CityTrips, and the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) have signed a collaboration agreement that will allow the CityTrips mobility platform to be used in several cities in Italy. The CityTrips mobile app includes the full range of public and shared transport options for getting around urban environments in a cleaner and more sustainable way. With the support of the FIA Innovation Fund, CityTrips aims to become a global MaaS solution, with the participation of FIA Clubs.

The RACC and ACI have signed a collaboration agreement that will allow the CityTrips mobility platform to be downloaded and used in several Italian cities such as Rome or Milan in the near future.

Developed by the RACC and completely free of charge, CityTrips is a mobility service aggregator that facilitates mobility in urban environments, transforming the way we move around our cities in order to be more sustainable, more efficient, cleaner and healthier.

The mobile app allows you to discover and choose the best route for getting around by combining different public and shared transport options, as well as finding and booking the motorbikes, cars, bicycles and scooters of the sharing operators in the city, finding out the public transport schedules in real time and mapping out the safest routes for cycling, among other functions.

CityTrips, a global Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solution powered by the FIA

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is an innovative way of providing the full range of mobility services to end-users as a viable alternative to the use of private vehicles. Inefficient transport is a major source of congestion and pollution, generating large losses in the environmental footprint. The main objective of CityTrips is to develop a complete global MaaS solution, a platform offering a single application to provide access to all related mobility and value-added services.

Created by the RACC in 2018 for the Spanish market, the CityTrips platform is being scaled up globally with the support of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) through its Innovation Fund, creating network opportunities and delivering a solution that is accessible to all FIA Member Clubs.

CityTrips is now a leading aggregator with more than 40 integrated operators, and its vision is to include all mobility options in a single app.

CityTrips can be downloaded free of charge for iOS and Android devices.

Mobility transformation and increased connectivity are among the key challenges that the mobility community faces worldwide. The FIA is pleased to support the global scaling of “CityTrips” across its Member network. The agreement between RACC and ACI marks an important milestone in this endeavor and will deliver benefits through our Member Clubs,” said Tim Shearman, FIA Deputy President for Automobile Mobility and Tourism.

Xavier Pérez, the RACC Managing Director, said that “this agreement strengthens the RACC’s international presence as a Mobility Services Club” and reiterated that “it is a major step forward in promoting multimodal mobility in Europe, making life easier for thousands of citizens and providing them with a useful and simple tool. In Spain, CityTrips is the leading app in number of mobility providers and it is widely used in major cities like Barcelona, Madrid or Valencia”.

"Integrating public transport with shared mobility services, using a private car just when it is strictly necessary, thus also rediscovering the pleasure of driving – this is the only way to make urban mobility more sustainable, green, affordable, and safer," said ACI President, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, about the cooperation agreement between ACI and RACC, which will make available the "CityTrips" app in a number of Italian cities. “Apps like CityTrips" – the ACI President added – “allow us to personalise our journeys. For the first time, we can choose and combine our ideal mobility modes, fares, and routes, reducing travelling times, risks, costs, and polluting emissions: we cannot miss this opportunity that should become our new way of travelling in urban areas, not only in times of crisis like the present one".
