EHRC - Victory in Switzerland for Stajf and Zelinka

The no204 Opel Kadett of Vojtech Stajf and Vladimir Zelinka has won Round 8 of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship after a close battle on the final day of the Rallye International du Valais with the no205 Ford Escort RS1600 of Marty McCormack and James Potter.   

The third leg of the rally in Switzerland featured seven special stages with McCormack posting the fastest time on four, compared to Stajf posting the best time on three.  On each of the first five stages the two cars were split by less than 10 seconds, with the two cars split by 0.5 seconds on SS13. 

The final two stages saw the gap open up, with McCormack going 14.5s faster than Stajf on SS15, with the Czech driver pulling out all the stops on the final stage to finish 28.8 seconds ahead of the Escort to claim the victory by just 8.4 seconds after sixteen rally stages.

The no203 Ford Escort RS1800 of Ernie and Karen Graham a distant third, finishing 9m02.1 behind the lead car at the end of the third day.

The ninth and final round of the 2021 FIA European Historic Rally Championship is the 69th Rally Costa Brava in Spain on 19-20 November.
