Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia stretched their FIA World Rally Championship lead with a convincing victory at Rally Italia Sardegna on Sunday afternoon.

Ogier headed a Toyota Yaris 1-2 finish on the Mediterranean island’s punishing rock-strewn gravel roads to claim his third win of the season. He finished 46.0sec clear of Elfyn Evans, extending his lead to 11 points after five of the 12 rounds.

Third place for Thierry Neuville, a further 19.2sec behind, was scant consolation for Hyundai Motorsport which held first and second before Ott Tänak and Dani Sordo retired on Saturday.

Neuville was fastest through the Wolf Power Stage to claim five bonus points. Team-mate Tänak scored four points in second in another i20, with Kalle Rovanperä taking three in third in a Yaris. Ogier secured two points in fourth with Sordo bagging the final point in fifth.

Jari Huttunen and co-driver Mikko Lukka sealed victory in the FIA WRC2 class - their first success of the season - ahead of Mads Ostberg and Torstein Eriksen.
