FIA announces new WMSC member

Presented by FIA President Jean Todt and supported by the Kenya Motor Sports Federation (KMSF), Kenya’s Sports, Culture and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has been elected into the World Motor Sport Council Board.

Amina Mohamed is the Minister for Sport, Culture and Heritage of Kenya and the Chairperson of the WRC Safari Rally Project Steering Committee. She is also a member of the Ethics Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

On his official Twitter account Jean Todt said: “Amina Mohamed, Minister for Sports, Heritage and Culture of Kenya, elected as a new member of the World Motor Sport Council. A great asset for the FIA advancing gender equality and diversity.”

Amina has been at the forefront of ensuring that Kenya retains its hosting rights for the Safari Rally, part of the World Rally Championship, which was initially set for June this year but was pushed to next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Amina Mohamed said: “I am honoured and excited to join the World Motor Sport Council.It is a privilege which underscores the importance of Kenya on the global sports management landscape.”

FIA Secretary General Peter Bayer and Kenya Motor Sports Federation President Phineas Kimathi congratulated Amina on her appointment.

“I would like to extend my sincere congratulations on today’s election. I am very proud and honoured to be working with Amina Mohamed as a World Motor Sport Council Member,” Peter Bayer said.

Kenya Motor Sports Federation President Phineas Kimathi said: “I wish to congratulate Amb. Mohamed on her election to this key organ of the FIA. This shows the confidence global motor sport has in Kenya, and this development will hold us in good stead as we prepare to return to the World Rally Championship fold next year.”
