Since its instigation under President Todt in 2009, the Women in Motorsport Commission has been working to improve access to motor sport for women around the world; those interested in competing, as well as those interested in other careers within the sport: legal, technical, managerial, among many others.

Today’s press conference in the Formula One Paddock Club in Monaco saw a wide cross-section of women involved throughout the sport participating and sharing their experiences and their thoughts to further boost the involvement of women.

Attendees at the press included Williams Acting Team Trincipal Claire Williams; Sauber Team Principal Monisha Kaltenborn; former Williams development driver and founder of Dare to Be Different Susie Wolff; FIA F2 Chief Steward and F1 Steward Silvia Bellot; Sauber development driver Tatiana Calderon; Formula 4 racer Marta Garcia; Ferrari Marketing and Sponsorship Director Lucia Pennesi; Ferrari Chassis Design Engineer Francesca Venturi; FOM Global Director of Hospitality and Experiences Kate Beavan; and FOM ‎Global Director, Promoter and Business Relations Chloe Targett-Adams.

“We have women in competition in nearly all disciplines today: Racing, Rally and Karting,” said Ms Mouton. “We have also increased the number of women working in different areas of motorsport – team principals, engineers, officials, marketing, design – proving that efficiency and competence are more important than gender.”

President Todt reiterated the point, focusing on the increasingly important roles that women play at all levels – from grassroots to the pinnacle in Formula One.

“We see women in leadership, in management, in technical positions throughout motorsport,” Mr Todt said.

“We are seeing more interest from women in motorsport, and those interested women are making a real success of their dreams and their goals.

“The women here today have become role models because of their ambitions, and I hope that today’s young girls are inspired to join this group in future as engineers, as drivers, and as the future leaders of a diverse motorsports community that reflects our diverse and global fanbase.”
