Rosenqvist and Giovinazzi share pole positions

Felix Rosenqvist was fastest in second qualifying of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at the 4.326 kilometres long Red Bull Ring. In the ranking of the second-fastest laps, used to determine the starting grid positions for the third race, Giovinazzi came out on top from Rosenqvist.

In second qualifying of the weekend in Austria, the young drivers in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship once again staged an action-packed battle for pole position. In the second half of the session, Markus Pommer (1:24.907 minutes), Alexander Albon (Signature, 1:25.026 minutes), Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing, 1:24.939 minutes), Felix Rosenqvist (1:24.395 minutes) and Antonio Giovinazzi (1:24.629 minutes) all took turns in the lead. In the final stages, Rosenqvist toppled Giovinazzi from first place and thus secured his second pole position of the weekend. Giovinazzi, who had only got up into first place with four minutes remaining, eventually had to make do with second place. In third place, Lance Stroll (1:24.663 minutes) repeated his good performance from first qualifying, a few hours earlier, in which he came third as well. Sérgio Sette Câmara (1:24.884 minutes) was another driver to underline his good performance: following his sixth place in first qualifying, he came out two places better in the second session and ended up fourth. Markus Pommer, Charles Leclerc, George Russell (Carlin, 1:24.956 minutes), Alexander Albon, Mikkel Jensen (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport, 1:25.032 minutes) and Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam, 1:25.072 minutes) completed the top ten. The session was briefly interrupted with red flags following a spin by Julio Moreno (ThreeBond with T-Sport, 1:30.462 minutes).

Antonio Giovinazzi (1:24.725 minutes), who came to Styria as the FIA Formula 3 European Championship points’ leader, secured himself pole position for the 24th race of the season and ended up ahead of Felix Rosenqvist (1:24.766 minutes) in second place. Sérgio Sette Câmara (1:24.942 minutes) was classified third, his best qualifying result in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship to date. His team-mate Markus Pommer (1:24.999 minutes) ended up fourth from Lance Stroll (1:25.055 minutes), Charles Leclerc (1:25.090 minutes), Jake Dennis (1:25.114 minutes), Alexander Albon (1:25.159 minutes), George Russell (1:25.177 minutes) und Callum Ilott (Carlin, 1:25.183 minutes).
