Adam Lacko and Ryan Smith took the wins at Most in the Czech Republic on Saturday after two typically entertaining and action-packed FIA European Truck Racing Championship races.

While Lacko took a last dash victory in his Buggyra International Racing System ‘FatFox’, Smith took a highly popular first ever FIA ETRC success.

The results today mean that Jochen Hahn’s lead in the championship point’s table has been reduced to just seven in what continues to be one of the closest title battles in recent memory.

Race 1
Adam Lacko delighted his home crowd with a final lap pass on chief title rival Jochen Hahn to win the first race at Autodrom Most.

The Buggyra International Racing System Frelightliner’s winning margin was a scant 0.076, one of the closest finishes in the history of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship.

Lacko had challenged pole-sitter Hahn for the lead on the opening lap, but was forced to give best when a Full Course Yellow emerged to recover the stranded Team Schwabentruck Iveco of Gerhard Koerber.

When the trucks were released again, Lacko set the fastest lap of the race on lap three, closing to within a few tenths of Hahn’s Team Reinert-entered MAN. Lap after lap, the Czech sought to find a way past, repeatedly making contact with the rear of Hahn’s truck, although both were able to keep going. It was not until the final lap when Lacko finally made his move, pouncing on the exit of the final corner to take a popular victory, his tenth of the season so far.

Race 2
Ryan Smith took his first ever FIA European Truck Racing Championship win in a thrilling Race Two at the Autodrom Most. The OXXO Energy Truck Racing Team MAN truck battled past polesitter Sacha Lenz and survived a challenge from René Reinert to win by just 0.149 seconds, after a fraught 11 laps of racing.

Smith started from second on the reversed grid after a lonely drive to seventh in Race One, but Race Two was anything but as he piled the pressure on Lenz from the off.

The Briton made his first attempt at passing on lap three, but left his braking too late into turn one and delayed Reinert as he scrambled his way back onto the circuit. This afforded Lenz a temporary respite, but it wasn’t long before Smith was back on his tail, this time making the pass stick on lap seven. Lenz’s loss of momentum also allowed Reinert and Steffi Halm through into second and third respectively.

However, Smith’s work was not done as he now had to turn his attentions to defending from Reinert, searching for his first win since Nogaro.
