ADAC extends the range of its mobility services further: as of immediately, a pilot project was set up to provide free breakdown assistance to members having bicycle trouble on the road.

Primarily, the ADAC’s road patrol will be helping bicyclists stuck with tyre, chain, brake or battery problems.

“Many of our members increasingly use bicycles. We want to find out what the demand is for such assistance and how it is received by the people,” explained Thomas Reynartz, Senior Manager of ADAC breakdown assistance at the start of the test run scheduled for several months.

To make the new ADAC service as reliable and successful as the one for cars, the road patrols receive specialised training and equipment.

The ADAC technicians will provide breakdown and accident assistance on location, help with transport to the nearest workshop and with recovering luggage or cargo. “Our aim is to get members up and running again as quickly as possible after a bicycle breakdown and save them a lot of trouble,” said Mr Reynartz.

Assistance will be provided in any location accessible for the patrol vehicles in line with the German Highway Code.
