Motor sport authorities working hand-in-hand to bring electric street racing to Chile

The FIA Formula E Championship is making its debut on the streets of Santiago on February 3, bringing electric street racing to the Chilean capital for the very first time with the help of the national motor sport federation - FADECH.

Working closely with both FADECH and the FIA, Santiago will stage an E-Prix for the first time with the fully-electric cars navigating their way around the picturesque area of Parque Forestal. The drivers will be vying for victory against the backdrop of Cerro San Cristobal and Santa Lucia Hill.

The 2.47km track - subject to FIA homologation - consists of 12 turns, crossing the River Mapocho and through Plaza Italia.

FIA President, Jean Todt, said: “I am happy to see close collaboration between the FADECH, its President Mauricio Melo Avaria, and the promoter for the FIA Formula E Championship for this upcoming new event. The relationship between all the host FIA ASNs, the promoter and the cities is essential to making the championship a success, and I’m looking forward to going to Chile in February to see the race.”

FADECH President, Mauricio Melo Avaria, said: “We are very excited to be hosting our first FIA Formula E Championship race on the streets of Santiago in February. Preparations are going well, and the close collaboration we have with the FIA and Formula E teams is helping us to make the event extra special.”

Alejandro Agag, Founder & CEO of Formula E, said: “I’m looking forward to seeing Formula E on the streets of Santiago for the first time. I always enjoy going to new locations on the calendar and especially in such a spectacular location as Santiago. I’d like to express my thanks to FADECH and the FIA for making this possible, and I’m sure it’ll be a fantastic event.”
