"FIA Member Clubs provide information, assistance and rescue services as well as motor sport organisation in their countries?
The heart of the FIA will always remain its member clubs and their activities in both general motoring and sport. FIA member clubs serve the motorist in a multitude of ways.
They provide vital assistance and rescue services for breakdowns or emergencies at the road-side as well as touring information, insurance and travel bookings. They carry out research and consumer testing; promote road safety and driver education; publish maps, technical guides and hotel ratings. They try at all times to protect the mobility of their members and the interests of the ordinary motorist.
FIA member clubs also organise motor sport events in their own countries. These events range from local club races for amateur enthusiasts to rounds of the FIA Championships, and can attract hundreds of thousands of spectators.
They also have the vital task of training marshals, scrutineers and safety personnel. Together with the FIA, they take the strongest possible interest in all aspects of motor sport safety.
The FIA works with and for these member organisations. It represents them internationally and helps them to co-ordinate their activities and their contacts with each other. This indeed was the raison d'étre of the FIA when it was founded in 1904:
to create a forum for international mobility, car-related issues and to unify international motor sport regulations which united motoring organisations around the world.
