CHAPTER 4 - SPECIFIC REGULATIONS FOR DRAG RACING RECORD ATTEMPTS
Art. 236 Specific regulations for drag racing attempts

236.1) Categories of vehicles
Top Alcohol Dragster, Pro Stock, Funny Car, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Top Fuel Dragster.

236.2) Times and distances recognised
- For national and local records, the ASNs concerned will fix the distances, as well as any other regulations which they shall deem appropriate.

- For international and world records, the recognised distances are as follows: acceleration records, standing start: 1/8 mile (201.17 m), 1/4 mile (402.34 m).

- Speed records will be to the hundredth of a mile per hour.

236.3) General running conditions See Article 220.

236.4) Course
The course must always be subject to a valid licence, in compliance with the prescriptions of art. 84 to 88 of the ISC.

The course used for attempts at records may be a course of either permanent or temporary nature.

The length of the course must be measured to an approximation of 1/10,000 of its length.

The start and finish lines, must be marked on the course.

The course must have a maximum longitudinal gradient of 1%.

All conversions of English to Metric, or vice-versa shall be in compliance with art. 32 of the ISC.

236.5) Particular running conditions
Two runs must be covered on the same course, during the time foreseen on the permit (art.6), or during the same event. The elapsed times of each run must be within 1% of each other. In this case the quicker time of the two runs will be taken into account if a new record is established.

In the event that the elapsed times of the two runs are inferior to the existing record but are not within one percent of each other, the quicker time will be acceptable as the backup for the slower time, which will stand as the new record.

If two contestants tie for the elapsed time record to the hundredth of a second at the same event, the tie breaker will be the fastest mile-per-hour reading for the run that established the record. In the event of a further tie, the contestant accomplishing the record run earlier in the event will be awarded the record. If the record is tied at a later race, the record will stay with the driver who established it first. Similarly, if two contestants tie for the speed mark, the tie breaker will be the quickest elapsed time on the run that established the new record. Speed marks may be set.

Records may be set until the driver is eliminated from further competition; previous runs allowable as one-percent record backup.

A contestant cannot set records with one vehicle, then compete in eliminations with another one. Only the driver holding the record at the conclusion of the event will be credited with the record. A driver setting and then loosing a record at the same event will not

receive credit for establishing a record.

Competitors may not enter one class and claim a record in another.

236.6) Permit for an attempt at a record
See Article 222, with the exception of paragraph 4 which should read as follows:

4) Pay the ASN to whom the application has been sent the optional fee and possibly the guaranty for organisation charges, as fixed by the said ASN. After having ascertained that the conditions provided for the execution of the attempt have been fulfilled, the ASN will establish the conditions of the organisation and nominate the officials in charge of the supervision, and will deliver the permit which will have to include all this information, as well as that entered on the application.

The ASN will give a copy of this document to the Chief Steward (art. 7). If the record attempt is an international or a world one, the ASN will notify the FIA so that it may be informed at least 48 hours before the date of the attempt, if the steward is nominated by the ASN, otherwise at least one month before that date. If the attempt takes place on a course that does not have a regular licence, the ASN after measuring the course, will deliver one (in case of a national record), or ask the FIA for one (in case of an international or world record), the validity of which will be equivalent to the duration of the permit.

For identical categories, groups and classes, a same competitor may make several simultaneous attempts, using a maximum of three different vehicles.

In this case, he must apply for separate permits for each vehicle.
