| Art. 216 Record By Record, is to be understood, the best performance obtained under the conditions prescribed in the present regulations (art. 33). Art. 217 Types of records recognised The only records recognised are speed records established either on track or on open road (art. 100) and in accordance with the following definitions : 217.1) Local record A record recognised by an ASN as the best result obtained on a track approved by the ASN in question, whatever the nationality of the entrant and of the driver(s) (art. 34). 217.2) National record A record established or broken in conformity with the rules established by an ASN on its territory or on the territory of another ASN with the prior authorisation of the latter (art. 35). A national record is said to be a "class record" if it is the best result obtained in one of the classes into which the types of cars eligible for the attempt are subdivided, or "absolute record" if it is the best result, not taking the classes into account. 217.3) International record per category, group of cars, cylinder-capacity classes or other subdivision A record recognised by the FIA as the best result obtained in one of the categories, groups, cylinder-capacity classes or any other subdivisions of the types of cars eligible for the attempt (art. 36). 217.4) International record for special vehicles A record recognised by the FIA as the best result obtained by a vehicle complying with the definition given for special vehicles under art. 13. 217.5) World record A record recognised by the FIA as the best result obtained with a vehicle, not taking the class category or group of the car into account (art. 37), provided the car belongs to the types eligible for an attempt at a national or international record (art. 218.3). N.B. : If it does not comply with the conditions specified under points 1), 2), 3) and 4), no performance, of speed or any other type may take the appellation of "record" (art. 102). Art. 218 Categories, groups and classes of eligible vehicles 218.1) Only vehicles of categories, groups and classes in conformity with articles 218.2 to 218.4 of the present Article may attempt to break the different types of recognised records (art. 99 and 126). In all cases, the vehicles must be in compliance with the prescriptions of Article 13, must have at least one seat equipped for the driver, must not be of a dangerous construction (art. 127), must be equipped with a firewall efficiently the driver in the case of fire (according to art. 253.15 of Appendix J), must not be subject to a suspension or disqualification (art. 129). 218.2) For national and local records, the ASNs are free to elect categories, groups and classes according to their national sporting regulations, in compliance with the prescriptions of Appendices B and J of the International Sporting Code. 218.3) International records can only be established by vehicles of the following categories : Category A : Special automobiles answering exclusively to the standards fixed in the second paragraph of Article 218.1 as well as to the definition of an automobile given in art. 13, using free fuel and divided into groups and classes according to Appendix B. Category B : Series-production automobiles in production at the time of the application for the attempt and: - either homologated by the FIA, or for which an application for homologation has been made to the FIA, - or recognised by the ASN of the country upon which the makedepends. Before the running of the attempt, three automobiles will be chosen at random from the assembly line of the production site by an official nominated by the ASN of the manufacturing country and/or by the FIA. These automobiles will be run in under constant supervision of this official and once the running in is completed, the entrant will choose from amongst the three automobiles the one which he will retain for the attempt. The running in must be a simple rolling over a maximum of 2000 kilometres. Any defective part may be replaced with identical parts on condition that the replacement operations are carried out under the control of the nominated official. For the running in and the attempt, the fuel used must comply with art. 252.9.1 of Appendix J. Automobiles of this category shall be divided into classes, in conformity with the prescriptions of Appendix B. It is permitted to fit a bolted safety rollbar in accordance with article 253.8 of Appendix J. Category C : Special vehicles complying with the definition given at Art. 13. These records may be subdivided according to the type of engine used (turbo-jet, rocket, etc.). Category D : Drag Race cars. Vehicles complying with the prescriptions of the FIA Drag Racing regulations. For all categories : The use of FIA-homologated seats and safety belts and of handoperated extinguishers is recommended. The ASN of the country in which the record attempt is made may make the use of such safety equipment obligatory. Likewise, that ASN will rule on whether or not overalls and helmets that it has approved must be used. Art. 219 Times and distances recognised 219.1) For national and local records, the ASNs concerned will fix the distances and times, as well as any other regulations which they shall deem appropriate. 219.2) For international and world records, the recognised times and distances are as follows : - Acceleration records, standing start 1/8 mile (201,17 m) 1/4 mile (402,34 m) - Distance record, flying start 1 km 1 mile - Distance records in kilometers, standing start 0,5 km 1 km 10 km 100 km 500 km 1000 km 5000 km 10000 km 25000 km 50000 km 100000 km - Distance records in miles, standing start 1 mile 10 miles 100 miles 500 miles 1000 miles 5000 miles 10000 miles 25000 miles 50000 miles 100000 miles - Time records in hours, standing start 1 H 6 H 12 H 24 H The following record is also recognised : - World Close Course Record Lap record Average speed |
