Rallye Monte-Carlo Day Five

2012 FIA WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
RALLYE MONTE-CARLO

22.01.2012

The Citroën Total World Rally Team crew of Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena today won Rallye Monte-Carlo, the opening round of the FIA World Rally Championship. This is now the sixth time the pairing has won this legendary event and they finished with a commanding two minute 45.5 second lead. Dani Sordo claimed second position for the MINI WRC team and Norwegian Petter Solberg took the final podium position for the Ford World Rally Team.

The rally concluded with one short stage this morning and, during this ‘Power Stage’, additional points were awarded to the fastest three drivers. Here, Loeb, Mikko Hirvonen and Evgeny Novikov claimed an additional three, two and one points respectively, adding to their total points haul from the general classification.

Behind the leading trio, Hirvonen finished fourth in his first outing in the Citroën DS3 WRC ahead of Evgeny Novikov, the Russian equalling his best-ever WRC result. François Delecour finished a fine sixth after nearly 10 years out of a factory-specification World Rally Car.

The second round of the FIA World Rally Championship now takes the crews to Sweden (9-12 February) for the only true winter rally in the series.
