The 2013 Rallye Monte-Carlo marks the opening round of the series and the 40th anniversary of the FIA World Rally Championship, the series having been inaugurated at the start of 1973 with this now world-famous event. Back then, the eight-day rally started with concentration runs from Almeria, Athens, Frankfurt, Glasgow, Monte-Carlo, Oslo, Reims, Rome and Warsaw - the average distances being in the region of 2,500 kilometres - before the crews met up for the start of the competitive action.

Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena cemented their status as the most successful driver and co-driver in the history of motor sport when they won their ninth consecutive FIA World Rally Championship title this season. The duo was re-united with their trophies this evening on the occasion of the FIA Gala held in Istanbul, Turkey.

The final 2012 meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) took place today, 5 December, in Istanbul. The FIA President, Jean Todt, opened the meeting by thanking Demir Berberoglu, Műmtaz Tahincioglu and the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation for their hospitality and for hosting the week of FIA meetings in Turkey. The following decisions were taken.
