Jari-Matti Latvala’s FIA World Rally Championship title hopes have been bolstered once again following a second accident for Sébastien Ogier which has ruled him out of the rest of Rallye Deutschland. Latvala continues to head the field and has pulled out a 56.6 second lead over Kris Meeke, the Briton withstanding pressure from behind to maintain second position. Thierry Neuville has climbed up the leaderboard from fifth to third following an impressive day of competition.
Reigning FIA World Rally Champion Sébastien Ogier made a costly mistake in the final stage of Rallye Deutschland today, handing the advantage to team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala after the opening day of competition. The Finn heads the leaderboard with 37 seconds in hand to second-placed Kris Meeke. Dani Sordo, who has suffered with a more disadvantageous road position, has climbed into third and is just a further 5.6 seconds adrift.
At the end of a tense afternoon of high-speed action, Jari-Matti Latvala has clung on to his lead in Neste Oil Rally Finland by the skin of his teeth. The Finn’s advantage has been slashed to just 3.4 seconds because of brake problems, allowing team-mate Sébastien Ogier to reel in the local hero. Kris Meeke remains in third, although the Northern Irish driver has slipped back from the fight for victory.
